Customization Remains Central to Tuuci’s Design Approach

General

Almost three decades in, Tuuci continues to expand how shade shapes the experience of outdoor space. From its earliest parasols to today’s pergolas, cabanas, furniture, and accessories, the company’s work appears in resorts, residences, and hospitality spaces around the world. The focus—elevating outdoor life through distinguished design and meticulous engineering—remains the through line as Tuuci explores new ways to blur the boundary between inside and out. In the following interview, the brand reflects on its evolution and the tools it is creating for designers and clients alike.

The Ocean Master MAX Bolero: Ombré Blossom.

Interior Design: Tuuci has been shaping outdoor experiences for nearly thirty years. How would you describe the brand’s mission today and the ways it continues to evolve?

Tuuci: Our mission has always been to help people live their best lives outdoors—and that still drives everything we do today. For nearly 30 years, we’ve grown from creating beautifully engineered shade systems into a full lifestyle brand that offers parasols, pergolas, cabanas, furniture, and accessories that make the transition between inside and outside feel natural.

As we evolve, the focus continues to be delivering designers, clients, and end users products and tools that make spaces beautiful, comfortable, and enduring. Whether it’s modular lounge systems, customizable parasols, or fully engineered pergolas, we’re designing solutions that allow people to live well inside and out.

ID: What design trends are you seeing most strongly influence both outdoor and indoor living, and how are those shifts reflected in Tuuci’s latest introductions?

Tuuci: Design is becoming more fluid—with fewer rules and more openness to mixing styles, materials, and influences. Spaces are layered and personal, with interiors and exteriors blending together so one feels like a natural continuation of the other.

Our newest introductions were developed with this mindset. From shade structures to furniture, we’re creating collections that work together to give designers the freedom to create cohesive, enduring environments—whether a space calls for bold, dramatic statements or quiet, understated moments.

ID: The Lulu Day Lounge and Ocean Master MAX Solanox highlight new levels of flexibility. How do these designs embody the freedom of expression that clients and designers are looking for?

Tuuci: Both pieces were designed to give designers a true sense of creative control. Lulu Day Lounge is modular and adaptable—roof styles, curtains, trims, lighting, pillows, and backrests can all be specified to create a look and feel that’s perfectly suited to the setting.

The Ocean Master MAX Solanox pergola brings that same flexibility on a larger scale. Designers can define its structure with customizable walls, roof options, curtains, lighting, climate control, and finishes—then complete the environment with bespoke Tuuci furniture, from sun lounges to deep seating and dining, for a fully unified outdoor room.

ID: Customization is at the core of Tuuci’s DNA. How do collections like Canyon Crue seating and Meritage Tables demonstrate the breadth of possibilities you offer?

Tuuci: Canyon Crue is a great example of how we approach design. It takes the classic X-frame silhouette and elevates it with some really artisanal details—like the crown bolt and case pieces that feel like they were crafted for a fine watch. Designers can choose from different chair heights, finishes, fabrics, and stitch patterns so it fits exactly how they want the space to feel.

Meritage Tables follow that same philosophy. The tabletop, frame, and trim details can be uniquely paired so the table becomes a distinctive element in the space. We like to think of it as giving designers the flexibility to put together a one-of-a-kind, thoughtfully curated look across tables, seating, and shade.

ID: Parasols have long been a signature for Tuuci. In what ways are you expanding this category to meet evolving design preferences?

Tuuci: Parasols have been part of Tuuci’s story from the very beginning, and we’ve always offered ways to make them personal. Today, we’re pushing the scale and the possibilities even further. Our new Ocean Master MEGA MAX Classic and MEGA MAX Voilare provide expansive shade solutions that are perfect for large hospitality projects or residential spaces that call for dramatic coverage.

Designers can layer in valance, screenprint, trims, welts, and even blossoms, along with features like lighting, heating, and automation. The goal is to make shade a true design statement—something that not only performs beautifully but also enhances the overall atmosphere of the space.

ID: Can you tell us how tools like the Tuuci Design Studio and the introduction of customizable BIM files are making the design process easier and more accurate?

Tuuci: The Tuuci Design Studio makes it easy for designers to configure products and instantly visualize their selections. It’s a quick, interactive way to refine ideas and get presentations ready faster.

Fully customizable BIM files let designers download models that match their configurations and import them into programs like Revit or SketchUp. This streamlines design, specification, and rendering, saving valuable time and allowing more focus on the creative aspects of a project.

ID: Looking ahead, how do you see Tuuci continuing to innovate while staying true to its foundations of design, engineering, and customization?

Tuuci: We see design continuing to move toward a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces, and our collections are created to support that. Whether it’s a living room that opens onto a patio or a hospitality space that moves from a lobby to a pool deck, we want people to feel comfortable and at ease wherever they are.

Going forward, we’ll keep expanding our product offerings, increasing the optionality across categories, and developing tools that make the design process faster and more intuitive. It’s all about giving designers more freedom to create spaces that feel connected, fluid, and authentic.
