The 5 Diamond boutique hotel partially owns Aspen Mountain, the incredible 675-acre ski mountain that is the focus of Aspen during winter and summer months. This majestic crown jewel serves as a backdrop for weddings, tours, and events hosted at the hotel. All outdoor spaces maximize the views Mother Nature has created and compliment the majestic angular slopes of the Rockies.

Pay extra attention to the sunny Ajax Tavern’s outdoor patio. The rectangular dining tables, square-back chairs, square tiled floor and rectangular cantilever parasols all reflect the strong lines of the mountain views.

The quaint luxury cabins at this Relais & Chateaux property feature a rustic wood look. It’s not surprising this sprawling property replicates that style in the outdoor sitting spaces tucked next to natural outdoor features, including a serene brook and canopy of mature trees. Heavy wood furniture with neutral, Earth-tone colored accessories makes the indoor and outdoor living spaces flow seamlessly. Simple, but elegant.

Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands, North Carolina

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, this east coast property flaunts the use of natural products like stone, brick and wood with expert precision. The outdoor spa is flanked with an arched-stone detail, which is replicated on the walls of the indoor and outdoor structures including the patio fireplace. Weathered wooden pool lounge chairs and tables complete the rustic look.

If you’re looking for inspiration that blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces, look to the open-air wall of inviting doors that creates a gentle flow between the indoor pool and outdoor patio at Ocean House. Once outside, the beachfront cabanas offer incredible views and hidden amenities including docking stations for Apple products and a Bose bluetooth sound system.

Sand, surf and a fully-appointed private beach are part of this boutique hotel’s outdoor space. We love how they’ve transformed Brickell Beach into an exclusive oasis with views of Biscayne Bay. Whimsical sun-shaped yellow-orange parasols, intimate pairings of lounge chairs and strategically planted palm trees make this luxury getaway lush and secluded.

Outdoor water features instantly put guests at ease with the tranquil views and opportunities to float and drift. This resort uses pools, jacuzzis, beaches, gardens, lagoons, islands and bridges to connect several wings of the hotel. Boulders and local foliage outline the water features and walkways, giving the property a natural, wilderness feel all within close proximity of the guest’s quarters.

Milliken Creek Inn & Spa in Napa, California

This west coast getaway features a country club-like manicured lawn with ample outdoor spaces to walk in grass and overlook natural creeks and small forest groves. Park benches await under trees. Chaise lounges and parasols perch on wooden decks. Gravel walkways lead to and fro at this wine-country hotel that feels like visiting a manicured country estate.

Williamsburg Inn in Williamsburg, Virginia

This aged-brick property features an outdoor social terrace as an extension of the main lobby. Guests enjoy meals and drinks with a view of the nearby golf club while being surrounded with lush green landscaping and stone walls in this classic European-style space. Is your mind bubbling with innovative ideas for your current boutique hotel design projects? If you need outdoor sun shading, heating or lighting solutions, let’s chat.
